Embracing My Inner Clutterbug: How Cassandra Aarssen Changed My Strategies in Life / Via Organizing

Updated: Feb 17

If you're anything like me, clutter can feel overwhelming, and organizing your space seems like a never-ending task. I never understood why things kept piling up and I had to spend so much time cleaning and re organizing my possessions. That was until I stumbled upon Cassandra Aarssen and her Clutterbug philosophy, which completely transformed my approach to.... almost everything.

Discovering Cassandra Aarssen

Cassandra Aarssen, the genius behind the Clutterbug concept, is all about making organization accessible for everyone. Her down-to-earth approach on her website, Clutterbug.com, and her engaging YouTube channel made me realize that organizing doesn't have to be a chore. Instead, it's about understanding your unique style and working with it, not against it.

The Four Clutterbug Types

Cassandra introduced me to the idea that there are four distinct Clutterbug types: the Bee, the Butterfly, the Cricket, and the Ladybug. Each type has its own way of organizing and dealing with clutter. By identifying my Clutterbug type, I was able to tailor my approach to organizing my home in a way that finally made sense and felt right for me.

1. The Bee

Bees are visual organizers who love detailed systems. They thrive with everything in plain sight and well-labeled. If you find yourself needing a lot of visual reminders, you might be a Bee!

2. The Butterfly

Butterflies are visual organizers too, but they prefer less detailed systems. They like to see their items but don't want to be bogged down by intricate organizing methods. If you enjoy simple and open storage solutions, the Butterfly type might resonate with you.

3. The Cricket

Crickets are hidden organizers who love details. They enjoy putting things away behind closed doors but appreciate a thorough and labeled system. If you find joy in having everything tucked away but meticulously organized, you're likely a Cricket.

4. The Ladybug

Ladybugs prefer hidden storage with minimal organization. They like things out of sight but don't need an elaborate system. If you crave simplicity and order without the complexity, you might be a Ladybug.

How to Identify Your Clutterbug Type

Here's a simple way to get started:

  1. Reflect on Your Preferences: Think about how you currently organize your space. Do you prefer items in sight, or do you like them hidden away? Are you a fan of detailed systems, or do you prefer simplicity?

  2. Take the Quiz: Cassandra offers a free quiz on her website, Clutterbug.com, to help you identify your type. It's quick, easy, and surprisingly accurate!

  3. Watch YouTube Videos: Check out Cassandra's YouTube channel for videos that dive deeper into each Clutterbug type. Her practical tips and real-life examples can help you understand your organizing style even better.

The Transformation

Since learning more about my Clutterbug style and changing my thought process, I've noticed a significant change in my home and in myself. Organizing has always been a fulfilling process for me but now it’s fun too. Understanding my natural organizing type has allowed me to create systems that work for me, reducing stress and making my space more functional and enjoyable.
